On occasion, students are given opportunities to work on actual music video and commercial productions. The roles taken by students on such productions vary with each shoot. Here are some samples from a few of those productions:

Menace to Society – “I’m Up On It”
Music Video filmed on 16mm

An independent label project from the motor city, Detroit served as an exceptional opportunity for MVCI students to get their hands dirty on a real live music video production. Students helped with lighting, audio playback and general production assistant duties. This project was completely filmed, edited and composited at MVCI’s Downtown Los Angeles studio.

  Exploiting Eve
EPK shot on Digital Video

A student proposed EPK project was produced and directed on site at MVCI by student Alisa Daglio. Her classmates assisted in every aspect of the production; lighting, camera and sound. MVCI welcomes every practical opportunity for students to learn from doing, not viewing. Personal side projects such as this one provide an excellent venue for the practice of hands-on practical training.

Desmond Jackson
“Girls Make the World Go Round”
Music Video shot on Digital Video and composited in After Effects

This lesson in green-screen video production provided students with a chance to not only get first-hand music video production experience, but to learn a great deal about the approaches taken toward the post production process as well. Shot entirely in the MVCI classroom, this funky little clip utilized only items that were readily available on school grounds as visual elements. This proved to be a challenging exercise for students both creatively and technically. The results were equally fun and interesting.
